UPDATED: 'New Moon' stuns visually, falters romatically

Another new development for the saga brought in with the new director, who has been responsible for films such as "The Golden Compass" and "About a Boy," is the artistic quality of some of the scenes. The reflection in an eye, the reoccurring apparitions of Edward or the emblematic dreams can at times remove viewers from the story line, but other instances give the scenes a symbolic quality so important to the original text.
Not all of the scenes are heavy with symbolism though, but the humor of the first movie is transferred to the sequel and upped a level or two. The one-liners and references only fans of the book will understand kept audience members laughing every few minutes and kept the potentially somber mood of the movie light. Creators of the movie did an excellent job of making fun of the movie while at the same time keeping it rich and to the story line of the book. They took a few creative licenses and not every aspect of the book was explained in the movie, but for the movie version of a several hundred page book, they did an amiable job.
Despite any issues viewers may take up with "New Moon," the "Twilight" saga will continue as the moon runs its course and fans get ready for an eclipse.
Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Rating as "Twilight," the movie, fan: 4.5 out of 5
