Hilarity and laughter are in store for the SIUE campus this Tuesday, as comedian Roy Wood Jr. will perform his prank call and standup act in the Evergreen Hall Multifunction Room.

His performance is at 7 p.m., and admission is free and is open to SIUE students and the public.

According to his Web site, Wood is an established comedian and has gained notoriety through numerous television appearances, taking his standup act to NBC's "Last Comic Standing," Comedy Central's "Bob & Tom Comedy Tour," HBO's "Def Comedy Jam," BET's "Comic View" and as a regular guest on E! network's "Chelsea Lately."

No stranger to the network television scene either, in 2008 Wood displayed his comic ability on CBS's "The Late Show with David Letterman" and later on "The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson."

Wood said even performing on such a large stage to a national television audience has not allowed him to forget where his comedic roots began as a student at Florida A&M University.

"I enjoy doing college shows because it takes me back to my days in school when I started doing comedy," Wood said. "College students aren't like a comedy club or middle-aged audience, they can take what I'm saying and relate to it."

Wood said his comedy comes from a desire to tell the truth and talking about everyday frustrations, then relating those frustrations to the audience through his performance.

The Birmingham, Ala., native said he has been able to polish and perfect his act while working with comic superstars including: D.L. Hughley, Ron White, Monique, Bill Engvall, Tommy Davidson and Sheryl Underwood.

Working with such talent, Wood said he relishes the opportunity of making himself and his comedy better through his experiences with comedic veterans.

"Not all of them were so much about the business side. D.L. Hughley was one of the most personable people I have ever met in comedy and is beyond professional," Wood said.
