Sophomore criminal justice major Ryan Harper hasn't heard much of Wood's material, but said he thought bringing a comedian to campus is a good move by the university.

"I haven't heard a lot about him, but that's a pretty good idea bringing in a comedian for students to kind of loosen things up," Harper said.

Currently available are Wood's three prank call comedy CDs, but he said an ultimate goal is to one day have a television show based on his childhood in Alabama focusing on his interactions with friends and family along with a stand-up career the likes of George Carlin.

Wood considers the late Carlin to be a well respected and instantly recognizable figure in the world of comedy by both fans and peers alike.

This performance is the third and final professional comedy act at SIUE in 2009. Entertainment Chair of the SIUE College Activities Board Lauren Anderson said the board tries to bring in about three acts per semester for students. At the beginning of the fall semester the comedian ANT made an appearance during welcome week, along with Dan Cummins this past October.

At this point, CAB Graduate Adviser Michael Martinez said there have not been any comedy acts scheduled for the spring 2010 semester, but the lineup should be posted soon on the CAB Web site.

SIUE will host "Late Night Laughs" 7 p.m. Friday in the Morris University Center's Meridian Ballroom. The event will have a late night comedy club theme and is open to all students.

Martinez said all students should attend the events and enjoy the show.

"Come out, have a laugh and take a break from class," Martinez said.
