The group dug holes and poured concrete for the playground. Doughty said the work helped the club members learn how to plan projects and give them experience on a job site.
"Just being there and working as a group and learning how to do everything is a big help," Doughty said.
In addition to learning how to coordinate and work as a group, the club is also a good way for students to network, according to Doughty. Members of the group visit offices and construction sites as well to meet the people working there and tour the facilities.
Gordon said the Constructors Club is a good combination of field-related experience and the ability to help the community.
"Our students have gotten a bit of a reputation for doing service projects in the community," Gordon said. "In the past we have done smaller service projects."
This project, funded through grant money, was 40 feet by 40 feet, according to Gordon. It gave the students plenty of hands on experience and the opportunity to contribute to the community.
