Interviews for the new Dining Services director began Wednesday and will continue through Friday.
The candidate selected for the position will fill the spot left open by former Dining Services Director Bill Canney, who is now the Dining Services director at Skidmore College in New York.
SIUE faculty, staff and student groups are taking part in the interview process for the final three candidates: Robert Gregory from University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Dennis Wobbe from Saint Louis University and Ernest Davis from St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Mo.
Students from groups such as the Campus Activities Board, Student Government and the University Center Advisory Board, as well as students from residence halls, will all get a chance to meet with each candidate and ask them questions.
"I recently went through this interview process myself and found it was a good experience," Morris University Center Director Joseph Pearson said. "I really value student feedback because the primary customers of Dining Services are the students."
Pearson said it was important for the new director to have a student-first focus.
"We have over 300 student employees in Dining Services," Pearson said. "We are looking for someone who can take on the dynamic challenge. It's a big responsibility. We are looking for someone who loves the job."
Laura Miles, assistant vice chancellor for Student Affairs, said it was important the candidate finds time to listen to students and be a team player.
"We had a good pool," Miles said. "A lot of applicants applied, and I think we picked three of the best candidates out of the pool."
Interim Assistant Director of Dining Services Vickie Edsall said the candidates' responses to questions during the initial phone interview process impressed her.
"I was very impressed with the way they responded to the questions we asked and by their motivation, as well as their focus, management attitude and the way they talk about their employees and customers," Edsall said.
