Overflow room added for spring commencement
Extra crowds expected with addition of summer graduates
Issue date: 5/1/08 Section: News
The extra crowds expected at Saturday's commencement ceremonies may be able to see the graduates walk after all.
An overflow room will be set up in an instructional gym of the Vadalabene Center for audience members to use if the seating in the main gymnasium fills, SIUE announced in a press release Thursday afternoon. The instructional gym will include chairs and a projection screen where the ceremony will be screened.
Over 100 additional summer graduates are expected to walk Saturday after the summer commencement ceremony was canceled due to plans to renovate the Vadalabene Center during that time. These students had the option of either walking in the spring semester's ceremony or waiting until the Fall 2008 commencement ceremony.
Three ceremonies will take place on Saturday. The College of Arts and Sciences will participate in the 9 a.m. ceremony, the Schools of Education and Nursing will participate at the 1 p.m. ceremony and the Schools of Engineering and Business will participate in the 5 p.m. ceremony.
