Safety discussion set for Tuesday
Alestle Staff Report
Issue date: 2/26/08 Section: News
Campus safety and security will be on the forefront Tuesday morning during an open forum with university officials, staff and students.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Narbeth Emmanuel said the forum is mainly being staged as a result of the shootings at Northern Illinois University Feb. 14 and is also an opportunity for the university to inform the campus of emergency procedures at SIUE.
"We have begun to roll out our emergency response plan, and we are looking for an opportunity to better inform the campus of our plan," Emmanuel said. "We are looking at ways to engage the campus community on this perplexing issue."
Five individuals involved with the safety and well-being of students will address and answer questions and concerns from the university community. Scheduled to speak are Dean of Students James Kleke, University Police Captain Tony Bennett, sociology and criminal justice professor Dave Kaularich, David McDonald of emergency management and safety and Adam Kepka of counseling services.
"We look forward to an engaging conversation on this very pressing issue," Emmanuel said.
The Campus Safety and Security open forum will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Morris University Center's Goshen Lounge.
