Fraternity member and vice-polaris Kevin Nixon compared Bok's mission with that of the fraternity's mission nationally and on the campus of SIUE.
"We're here to educate and inform, as well as entertain," Nixon said. "The entertainment will come later, but right now, we're trying to follow our goals as a social service fraternity by bringing Francis Bok to speak ... we're thankful for the chance to work with CAB again, and we hope that the community will support our efforts during this and other events."
Furthermore, Tekeste said Iota Phi Theta has a duty to present civil concerns to better educate the campus community.
"Our fraternity slogan is, 'It takes a man,'" Tekeste said. "In order to resolve the issues of evils such as slavery, it will take mankind."
Iota Phi Theta will host an informational meeting at 6:55 p.m. Thursday in the board room, on the second floor of the Morris University Center, and the organization will continue the America: Home Of The Homeless clothing and food drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 at Cougar Village. The next event sponsored by CAB is the Dive-In Movie at 7 p.m. Friday at the Vadabalene Center pool.
For more information on both organizations' coming events, call the Kimmel Leadership Center at 650-2686.
