The 2004 Click It or Ticket campaign has ended, and SIUE police once again used the opportunity to crack down on motorists who neglect to wear their seat belts.
Operation Click It or Ticket is a high visibility seat belt and child restraint enforcement program funded by the state. It is used to increase seat belt usage and save countless lives.
"The Click It or Ticket campaign basically goes to get people to buckle up," SIUE Police Lt. Dan Keeton said. "We want to make people aware that we're out there and there is no excuse."
The Click it or Ticket campaign ran from May 24 to June 6.
"So far we have written out 14 citations," Keeton said.
Keeton added that there were more citations written out during the campaign last year because it was conducted in the middle of the semester.
"It's pretty simple. There are signs posted to buckle up," Keeton said. "Be aware and always wear seat belts."
