More than 3,000 people joined the festivities of Springfest Survivor on the Quad 2001 last week in the Morris University Center and the Stratton Quadrangle.

Although cold weather forced the inflatable mountain climb and some booths to move indoors Tuesday, the sun was shining Wednesday and Thursday and more inflatable games were brought out. An inflatable obstacle course and giant slide were added outside.

Springfest Chair Tulani Redding said approximately 250 people enjoyed the annual giant banana split Thursday.

Adding to the entertainment were four bands that performed Tuesday and Wednesday. CPB, a funk/reggae band, and Skunk Pit Records, a rap/hip-hop band, both performed indoors Tuesday. Bi-Level, a rock/alternative band, and Daisy Chain, a country pop group, entertained crowds outside on the Quad Wednesday.

Finishing off the week was the Battle of the Bands sponsored by the University Center Board. The bands that battled were Kessel Run; Lion of Lucerne, who won second; Skaerkraw Radio and the Plutonium Kidz, who grabbed third. Taking home the honor of first place was Kessel Run. The band won $250 and performed at the Outback Bonfire Thursday evening at the Cougar Lake recreation area.

A cash prize was awarded to the student booth with the most “Survivor Spirit.” Coming out on top was the Student Experimental Theater Organization with a $100 prize. Members of SETO jumped into the theme dressing up as the real “Survivor” cast and also adding props to transform their booth for judging.

The Survivor Challenge took over the Quad part of the time as six different teams took part in physical and mental tasks. One of the tasks included participants holding their feet in a bucket of ice water. Competitors also faced various obstacle courses throughout the three days. On the final day, the competition was ended at the Cougar Lake recreation area where the teams took part in a final immunity challenge at the bonfire. The team “Freakshow” won the final challenge.

The Outback Bonfire ended the Springfest celebration as Kessel Run performed for students. The Nelly ticket drawing also added to the excitement and fun of the evening was the Nelly ticket drawing. Freshman Kari Amann won the pair of tickets given away by the Springfest committee.
