More than 30 students representing Washington University's graduate and undergraduate schools met today to begin planning a protest of the University's decision to award Phyllis Schlafly an honorary degree. Many of those in attendance were members of the Class of 2008, but several professors, community members and underclassmen took part in the discussion as well.

On Wednesday morning, Washington University Professor Mary Ann Dzubak stated that the school awards honorary degrees to people whom it wishes to hold up as "worthy of emulation." Phyllis Schlafly, she argued, is not this sort of person. On the contrary, I would argue that Mrs. Schlafly fits the qualification perfectly.

As students and faculty flock to a group calling on the University to reverse its decision to offer prominent conservative Phyllis Schlafly an honorary degree, Schlafly is standing by controversial statements she has made in the past that have made her famous within the conservative community and infamous among liberals.

It's ladies night.
A vodka and cranberry, gin and tonic, dry or on the rocks - it doesn't matter how much it is - if you are female, you can have whatever you want because your drinks are on the house.
On the surface, free drinks for females seems like a relatively benign idea with women coming out ahead.

Philip Glass was a minimalist; Thrice just never does anything with "The Alchemy Index Vol. III & IV." All 12 tracks are very different, spanning new age to spirituals, but that only lends to the feeling that the album is an exercise in mediocrity.

Even though professors might not like it or let students use it, Wikipedia is making a comeback in some university classrooms - but not as a source. I've already blown my 15 minutes of fame. And, unfortunately, far before I could appreciate it. As one-half of the first set of test-tube twins born in Iowa, my birth was deemed newsworthy, even though my sister, Jen, and I were healthy, normal babies.
In May 1987, the Des Moines Register did a story on my family - a family that was formed, the reporter wrote, "thanks to technology.

Steve Segner brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "house call." Segner, a 1990 graduate of the SIU automotive technology program, has been working as a mechanic since 1982. He began his Car Doctor business in 1986. Instead of starting his own garage, Segner decided he would take his mechanic service to his customers.

This semester has been a stressful one. Long hours and late nights have consumed my life, but I wouldn't trade the experience I gained. I've thought a lot about what I would write in my last column. My intention was always to address my last column as Editor in Chief to everyone I love, because I couldn't have survived this semester without them.
